Photo Session Preparation Checklist

Get ready for your photo session, plan ahead and enjoy a stress free photo session

First

  • Find a photographer who’s style you identify with and get in touch to see if you’re a good fit

  • Decide what time of the year you want your session depending on your vision and secure a date

2 Months out

  • Find the perfect location that fits your vision - your photographer should have recommendations

  • Start putting together your cohesive wardrobe, complimenting your vision, style and location
(layers and textures combined with neutral and muted colors always looks great)

1 Month out

  • Get other outfit details such as strapless bra if needed, accessories etc - don’t forget shoes

  • Schedule hair / make-up / nail appointments if that’s what you want (give new hair cut/color a week to relax)

1 Week out

  • Check the route to your session location to know how long of a drive to expect

  • Get your outfits ready, try them on and make sure everyone feel comfortable - get them ironed and hung up

  • Check the weather forecast and if it’s foreseeable bad, reach out to your photographer for back up options

  • Check your session time - is it later in the day, plan and prep kids accordingly

2 Days out

  • Get your wardrobe all ready to bring - with delicate clothing, plan to change on location to prevent wrinkles

  • Plan for the weather (extra coats for cold, extra shoes or towels for mud and rain, bug spray for summer, etc.)

  • If your location requires a walk/hike, bring appropriate footwear (bring flats to walk in between)

  • Make sure by now hair and eventual nail appointments are taken care of

  • If kids are part of the session, start adjusting their nap times if necessary - tired kids can be cranky

1 Day out

  • Check your route again to make sure no detours or constructions came up

  • Check the weather one more time and plan accordingly

  • If small kids are part of the session, give them a later nap to have them at their happiest for session time

  • Get everyone excitement - make this the big event of the day and let kids and partners know what to expect

  • Go to bed early for that beauty sleep :)

Session Day

  • Everything packed?
(Wardrobe, Shoes, Accessories, Extras (bug spray, towels, coats, extra shoes), Snacks, Waters…)

  • If pets are part of the session, give them a long walk beforehand to wear them out a bit

  • If kids are part of the session, make sure they get a later nap - you want them at their happiest, not cranky

  • Get ready - hair / make-up / shave etc

  • Let everyone eat before the session - nobody wants to take pictures hungry

  • Keep the excitement up!

  • Don’t worry, everyone should be able to fully express their personalities, no matter how wild or shy

  • Relax, have fun and embrace every moment of the session - it will show!
